The above itinerary is for three days and two nights in Durham, NC. On this trip, we went to a Duke Football game and a book signing at the Durham Library. There are some great ideas for places to visit, such as the Nasher Museum of Art and the Duke University Campus.

1. TripAdvisor.com
I use Trip Advisor for every vacation I plan. I find this site most useful when trying to decide on a hotel in any given city, or even a restaurant. I rely heavily on their user-ratings, and so far, it's never steered me wrong.

2. Frommers.com
When planning an itinerary, I usually check to see if Frommers has any Suggested Itineraries available for the city I'm visiting. They are often available for major cities and tourist destinations. Even if a Suggested Itinerary is not available, you can often find great ideas for Attractions & Restaurants.

3. TravelZoo.com
This site is most useful if you are planning a last-minute getaway. Each week, they gather the best travel deals from thousands of sites, and post them for their visitors. If you sign up, you can receive their "Top 20 List" each week in your inbox.

4. Kayak.com
If you're booking a flight or a hotel, be sure to check Kayak for the best rate. They search 100's of sites so you can compare rates in one easy click.

5. FoodNetwork.com
Why go to The Food Network for help on travel? If you want to find the best places to eat, check out the restaurants the Food Network has featured on their shows. I've had the most luck with restaurants featured on Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives. Go here to find the listing of restaurants Guy Fieri has visited. You can do a page search for the city or state you are visiting.

The Great Smoky Mountains - Tennesee

I've just returned from a vacation in the Great Smoky Mountains of Tennesee. What an amazing, relaxing vacation it was! We stayed in the Angels Among Us cabin that we rented through Timber Tops. I'd highly recommend it, especially for a honeymoon, romantic getaway, or even a family vacation. There is a Queen bed in the master bedroom, and twin beds up on the loft (which is accessed by a spiral staircase). The sofa is a pull-out, so you can actually sleep up to 6 people. The view is amazing, and the cabin is quiet. There are other cabins around, so you are not isolated, but you still have plenty of privacy.

We used this itinerary for the trip, and had a blast. There were a couple things we didn't do, such as the Smokey Mountain Winery, the Dulce Uva Wine Bar Cafe (it was closed), and Huck Finn's (we decided to eat at the cabin instead). I might move the Sky Lift to Day 1, because that is located in Downtown Gatlinburg. And it was probably my favorite thing that we did - if you are deathly afraid of heights, this might not be the activity for you, but otherwise, you will thoroughly enjoy it. I also would say that breakfast at both the Old Mill and the Apple Barn are must-do activities. Be sure to go with a hungry stomach - you will get more food than you can possibly eat in one sitting! One thing that is not on the itinerary, and should be, is the Dixie Stampede. That is a great dinner show that everyone will enjoy. If you have to choose, definitely choose that over the Black Bear Jamboree. But don't miss The Comedy Barn!

That's right, we will be launching the new site for SightSI.com very shortly! We are still working out the bugs, and making a few tweaks here and there, but everything is coming together. The new site will be more user-friendly, and will allow you to submit itineraries more easily. It will no longer be in Blog format, though we will continue to have a blog for site-updates.

To make the site a success, I will need help from all of you. So please, tell your friends about us, submit your own suggested itineraries, and be sure (when the new site is launched) to start rating itineraries!
